High Adventure

In addition to monthly overnight camping trips and a week at a BSA summer camp, we offer challenging ‘high adventure’ trips for older scouts, including multi-day backpacking trips, canoeing trips, and an annual week-long ’50-miler’ to destinations such as Oregon, Idaho, Yosemite, and the Philmont BSA High Adventure Base in New Mexico. For example, in 2019, we headed to Philmont High Adventure Base in Northern New Mexico. It covers 140,177 acres of rugged mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains in northern New Mexico. Philmont has mountainous rugged terrain with elevations that range from 6,500 to 12,441 feet and includes 35 staffed camps and 55 trail camps

Our Philmont trek included one day at base camp plus an 11 day backpacking adventure interspersed with activities such as  horseback riding, burro packing, rock climbing, burro racing, mountain biking and .30-06 rifle shooting. The troop has traditionally traveled to the Philmont via the Southwest Chief train.

In summer 2019, we participated in Emerald Bay camp at Catalina Island. Our scouts will be in the merit badge programs as well as the Rugged Adventures!

In the summer of 2020, we participated in the Florida Sea Base high adventure program in the Florida Keys.

Images from a while ago are shown below. For a complete, up-to-date image gallary (in 2022), we have our Flickr page, which contains all the images that the troop uploads.
