Why Troop 286?
Troop 286 is a youth-led Scouts BSA troop of around 50 Scouts welcoming boys ages 11-17. We meet at Holy Family Catholic Church in San Jose, California most Mondays from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
We focus on providing a Scouting experience filled with fun and adventure while fostering an environment where youth will grow into the next generation of leaders, all while building lifelong friendships.
We emphasize Lord Baden-Powell’s patrol method, and have mixed-age patrols (groups of 8-10 scouts) with older scouts in the patrol both teaching younger scouts both Scout skills and mentoring them in leadership.
What Scouts Do in Troop 286
Our scouts stay active year-round with activities like:
- Monthly outings such as:
- Kayaking and canoeing
- Skiing and snow camping
- Rocketry
- Rifle shooting and archery
- Ziplining and ropes courses
- District Camp-O-Ree
- and more!
- Summer camps including:
- Merit badge camps
- 50-mile backpacking trips
- Weeklong sailing adventures
- and more!
- Learning Scout skills like knot tying, first aid, and more
- Community service projects
- Leadership development
- Making new friends with fellow scouts
