My name is James Thomas, and I’m a 2012 Eagle Scout from Troop 286. I consider my time in scouting to be one of the most formative experiences of my life, as I became a much tougher person. From sleeping without a sleeping bag or tent at High Sierra in the coldest night of my life, to hiking 70 miles of the JMT and Whitney after overcoming a terrible case of altitude sickness, Scouting has really tested my limits. As I embark on a career in the startup world and the tech industry, I lean on the lessons I learned in Scouting to push me through the tough times. If you’re still in the troop, don’t underestimate the value of the program and the great life skills and friendships it provides.
