Monthly Outings

Troop 286 is an active troop that gets outdoors throughout the year. We plan at least one troop outing each month, giving Scouts regular opportunities to camp, hike, explore, serve, and build friendships through shared adventures.

Our yearly outing calendar is selected by the Scouts during an annual planning meeting. This youth-led process gives Scouts a voice in choosing the adventures they want to pursue and helps them take ownership of the troop’s program. By planning ahead, the troop can offer a varied schedule of activities that appeals to new Scouts, experienced Scouts, and everyone in between.

Outings are where Scouts put their skills into practice. Working with their patrols, Scouts plan meals, shop for ingredients, prepare and cook their own food, set up camp, practice outdoor skills, and work together to solve challenges. These experiences build self-reliance, teamwork, and leadership while making every outing both fun and meaningful.

Each outing is led by a youth Campmaster and supported by an Adult Outing Coordinator. The Campmaster helps organize and run the event from the Scout perspective, while the Adult Outing Coordinator provides adult guidance, logistics, and safety support. This partnership keeps the program youth-led while ensuring that each outing is safe, well organized, and successful.
